Winter Mix:

Pepo squashes that have been selected for flavor at full maturity, and for storage. Mix includes:

  • (Sweet Dumpling x Melonette Jaspée de Vendée) x Orange Butternut (which is a moschata). This is a fertile interspecific grex.
  • A cross between Going to Seed’s 2023 winter pepo seed, Sweet Reba and Thelma Sanders varieties.
  • Delicata and acorn delicata crosses.
  • Seeds from a Carnival squash with a flavor like yellow birthday cake.
  • Zucchini x spaghetti cross grown from the 2022 Reckless Pepo mix.

Packets contain approximately 16 seeds.

Summer Mix:

Pepo squashes that have been selected for flavor as immature summer squash.

  • Cocozelle and Kousa-type squashes, selected for rich, nutty flavor.
  • Hybrids of Connecticut Field Pumpkin with nearby pepos, including yellow zucchini -- a wonderful hybrid, delicious summer squash.
  • A mix of summer squash selected for productivity despite high pest and disease pressure in the Missouri Ozarks.
  • Seeds from Homs Kousa grown next to Costata Romanesco.
  • Yellow crookneck.
  • Mostly a zucchini grex, with a high density of Mexican grey zucchini, but also some spaghetti mixed in. Selected for bounty more than taste, but they all taste good.
  • Seeds from a Tatume that was very tasty and grew well. It may have crossed with spaghetti squashes, zucchinis, pattypans, or yellow straightnecks.

Packets contain approximately 35 seeds.

Are seeds really free?

Our mission is to make diverse seeds available to everyone. Although the seeds are free, you will need to pay for shipping. In addition, we ask you to consider making a donation to cover program costs. This allows us to make seed free for those who need it.

When will I get my seeds?

Seeds will ship within a week of ordering. This program is run by dedicated and hardworking volunteers.  Going to Seed is not a seed company. You may receive packages that have less than the stated number of seeds, germination rates may not meet the federal standards, shipping may be slower than you prefer, or there may be any other number of unanticipated glitches. Please be patient with us as we improve the standards over time.

How are seeds packaged?

Seeds are packed in moisture proof, 100% compostable materials. We recommend saving this packet to fill and send back to the program.
