Seed Increase & Community Distribution
Seed Increase & Community Distribution
This year, thanks to our many community supporters, we distributed 6,000 seed packets of 41 crops, helping gardeners across the US and Canada begin or continue their local adaptation journeys. Read more in the 2025 Program Update.
In 2026, we will expand our distribution to schools, community gardens, prison garden programs, and seed libraries. We recently received a grant to update and distribute our beautiful seed saving guides that teach adaptation methods. The guides will be paired with regionally sourced seeds whenever possible. From past experience, we anticipate that these guides will be very popular. With your support, we can produce enough diverse seeds in 2026 for distribution in 2027.
Our goal of $20,000 will support approximately 30 seed increase projects:
- Pay small farmers stipends to grow diverse, regionally adapted grexes of popular crops
- Rescue dozens of rare varieties from the USDA GRIN seedbank
- Pair seeds with our crop guides for people new to adaptation gardening
- Provide materials to schools, prisons, and community projects ready to grow

How it Works
Farmers will receive $200-600 to grow specific seed increase projects. Projects may include rare short-season bean landraces from GRIN, Joseph Lofthouse’s promiscuous tomatoes, or a collaborative ultracross watermelon project with Ujamaa. Seeds go directly into our free Seed Share Program and partnerships working toward food sovereignty.

Why This Matters
Every seed has the potential to adapt, evolve, and feed communities for generations. Your contribution moves rare varieties out of freezers and into gardens where they can do what they do best: grow, change, and nourish us. When you give today, you're investing in a food system built for the future by growers, for the community.
