Going to Seed
Brassica Zine Kit
Brassica Zine Kit
Wild Brassica oleracea, the ancestor of broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collards, cabbage, brussels sprouts, and kohlrabi, began its journey in the coastal Mediterranean, growing along rocky limestone cliffs. Farmers in what is now Italy began domesticating this plant around 600 BCE.
Some people liked eating the leaves, others preferred large tender flower buds, and still others selected for thick juicy stems. Over centuries, this wild plant was shaped into numerous vegetables we eat today.
When you order this kit, you're joining a nationwide project to grow local seed supplies. Use it to engage with your local community and inspire new seed savers.
The seeds in our packets are a diverse mix of heirlooms that were allowed to cross-pollinate in previous generations, providing the greatest opportunity for selecting vigorous plants under your local growing conditions, as well as reducing the barriers for home seed savers (there are fewer requirements for isolation). We teach people to celebrate community-selected seeds, flavor, and diversity over uniformity.
Kit contains 20 zines and 20 kale seed packets.
Limit one kit per order. You may place additional orders if you want more than one kit.
