This mix contains five species of Vigna and one kind of pigeon pea. The idea of this mix was to provide summer legumes that perform well in the South and are resistant to heat, drought, and insect pressure. Donations came from all across the US and will likely perform well in many latitudes. Most of the mix consists of about 20 types of cowpeas with a great diversity of shapes and colors. Some yard-long beans are present, too. I suggest giving these seeds a trellis and a good bit of space.
Species present: Vigna umbellata, Vigna unguiculata, Vigna radiata, Vigna mungo, Vigna aconitifolia, and Cajanus cajans.
Packets contain approximately 100 seeds.

You may receive packages that have less than the stated number of seeds, germination rates may not meet the federal standards, shipping may be slower than you prefer, or there may be any other number of unanticipated glitches. Please be patient with us as we improve the standards over time.

Hi, I'm Lowell. I live in North Florida where summers are rainy, hot, and humid, with high bug pressure. These conditions are a challenge for many crops, so I turned to the growing styles of adaptation agriculture and natural farming. I view the results of these styles as a journey in abundance and diversity -- the myriad ways in which the world expresses itself -- and enjoy saving seeds from a variety of crops, with a focus on dry legumes and grains.
